Pedestrian fatally struck Friday night on Williamson Road in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police are investigating after a man was found lying in the road after being struck by a vehicle along Williamson Road in northwest Roanoke Friday night.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, word came in of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 5100 block of Williamson Roanoke NW at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man lying in the road with what appeared to be serious injuries.

Police say Roanoke Fire-EMS then brought the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The department says the man’s identity will not be released until they make the proper notifications.

According to police, the initial investigation indicates the man was in the road when he was hit by a vehicle traveling south on Williamson Road NW.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is reportedly cooperating with authorities.

No arrests have been made in connection with this ongoing investigation, officials say.
