BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Fire crews in Botetourt County spent part of Friday evening battling an outdoor burn that was thought to have been extinguished that ultimately burned a shed to the ground.

According to the Botetourt County Department of Fire & EMS, people were burning a pile of leaves and lawn debris.

The department says that those who were doing the outdoor burning thought it was completely out, however, the pile reignited and caught a shed on fire.

They say there were no injuries in the blaze but are reminding everyone that if you do outdoor burning, to use extreme caution. Even though most of us have seen some rain the last few days, just below the surface, the ground is still a bit dry.

Some of our localities do have active burn bans in place. If your county is included, it is illegal to do any outdoor burning of any kind.

If you have any questions about burning in your locality, contact your local fire department.
