UPDATE 10:20 a.m. (1/27/22): Roanoke Fire-EMS has determined that the cause of Wednesday afternoon’s house fire in northwest Roanoke — which left one person injured — was accidental.

According to the department, the fire was started because of improperly discarded smoking materials.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke fire crews battled a house fire in northwest Roanoke on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Roanoke Fire-EMS, the fire was located in the 2700 block of Kirkland Drive NW and was reported around 12:45 p.m.

While the fire was quickly put out, one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There are no details regarding the specific injury that person sustained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
