Friday afternoon fire in Salem leaves one injured

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — On Friday afternoon, the crews with Salem Fire & EMS responded to a house fire on Victoria Street that left one person injured.

Units arrived within minutes of the report, which the department says came in at approximately 4:19 p.m. on Friday, April 2.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the home.

Heavy fire was located in the basement that had extended to the first floor. The fire was brought under control within 35 minutes, but the home did sustain heavy fire and smoke damage.

Two residents were said to have been at home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate;. However, one resident sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated at the scene.

The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the fire and there is no damage estimate at this time.
