UPDATE: 24-year-old arrested on arson charges in Botetourt County house fire; one firefighter injured

UPDATE 5:57 p.m.: Deputies have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the house fire in Botetourt County on Wednesday.

Authorities told WFXR news they received a call about a domestic dispute. When they arrived, they saw James Wade — from Big Island — leaving the house with what appeared to be a gas can in his hand.

Deputies noticed smoke and fire coming from the home, so fire crews were called to the scene. However, nobody was inside the home.

Wade is charged with arson of an occupied dwelling, domestic assault, malicious wounding, and property damage. He is being held in the Botetourt/Craig County Regional Jail without bond.


BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — One firefighter was taken to the hospital for minor injuries while crews were battling a house fire in Botetourt County.

Units from the Botetourt County Department of Fire and EMS — along with Bedford Fire Department, Roanoke County Fire and Rescue, and the Botetourt County Sheriffs Office — were called out to Willow Wood Drive for a structure fire at approximately 12:06 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9.

Fire officials say nobody in the house was hurt, but one firefighter sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
