One dead in motorcycle crash Monday afternoon in Botetourt County

Virginia State Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the motorcycle crash following a police pursuit on New Year's Day.

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police is investigating a motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Lynchburg man.

According to authorities, the incident took place on Monday, July 5 at 2:25 p.m. at the 12500 block of Craig Creek Road.

A 2005 Kawasaki VN200 motorcycle ran off the side of the road.

The driver, Walter D. Gilliam, 52, died at the scene.

Troopers say he was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.
