Officers rescue Baby Mallard duck found hanging from a vine in Salem

Roanoke Valley News

(WFXR) — An adorable baby Mallard duck was rescued in Salem over the weekend before it was brought to the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke.

According to the wildlife center, the baby duck was found hanging from a vine 15 feet in the air, suspended over water on the Greenway.

However, a Salem Animal Control Officer reportedly climbed the tree and shook it loose while a Salem police officer stood below and caught the duckling with a net!

The wildlife center says Mallard ducks can live up to 10 years, but they only weigh up to 3.5 pounds. In addition, Mallards only have one brood per year, laying an average of seven to 10 eggs.
