ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) – The Town of Rocky Mount has a new town manager.
According to an announcement by town officials on Monday, April 12, Robert J. Wood has been appointed to the role. He replaces outgoing town manager James Ervin, who is retiring after 14 years of service.
Wood was the former city administrator of West Lake Hills, Texas.

A national search was conducted by Town Council for a new town manager. They were assisted by the Berkley Group of Bridgewater, Virginia, who received 34 applications and interviewed 12 candidates, recommending four finalists for interviews.
In their search, council members were looking for candidates who were experienced, had vision, and brought new ideas.
Wood received a Bachelor of Arts with honors in economics and a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas as Austin.
In his career, he served as city manager of Flatonia, Texas from 1999-2007 and as the city administrator of West Lake Hills in Austin, Texas area from 2007 to 2019. Wood also served as the interim city manager of Bastrop, Texas for several months in 2020.
He is designated as a credentialed manager by the International City/County Management Association and is an active volunteer in that organization.
Wood is also an Eagle Scout and is fluent in Spanish.
