ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Even while you’re in the heart of the Star City, you’ll still catch a glimpse of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Especially now that Downtown Roanoke is getting a little brighter with a new mural underway.

The mural pays tribute to the outdoors, showing off McAfee Knob, a well-known, highly photographed hike along the Appalachian Trail.

Freedom First Credit Union building off Willaimson Road is the canvas for this project.

The artist, James Bullough, came all the way from Germany to complete the mural.

While Roanoke Outside says the message is “Keep climbing to success,” Bullogh shared that there are more interpretations of his piece.

“It’s always very interesting, who picks out what, and what interpretation other people have. We’re always interested to hear that. If you want to come by and talk to us about it, please do,” said Bullough.

The mural is set to finish in the next few days.
