ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke has long been known for celebrating delicious food through festivals, whether that’s strawberries, bacon, or wings. Next weekend, the Star City is hosting a new foodie fiesta: Taco Fest!

Roanoke’s very first Taco Fest is set to run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Elmwood Park. Tickets can be bought online for $12 or at the gate for $15. Children age 12 and under are free to attend.

Attendees will be able to enjoy the Star City’s favorite tacos all in one place, with the chance to vote for “Roanoke’s BEST Taco,” enjoy live music and a family fun zone, and shop with local vendors, organizers say.

An array of tacos and beverages will be available for purchase from eleven on-site vendors, including local favorites like Cabo Fish Taco, Tuco’s Taqueria, Tacos Rojas and more. Special thanks goes to Starr Hill Brewery for sponsoring the Starr Hill beverage station, featuring delicious locally brewed beers. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, including local favorites like JoJo Stockon & Solacoustix, Christian Q & the Groove, Salsa Noke and others. The Macaroni Kid Fun Zone will featuring STEM activities, face painting, and more!

Statement released by Huddle Up Moms

Proceeds from Taco Fest benefit Roanoke-based nonprofit, Huddle Up Moms, which aims to empower women to prioritize their wellbeing, as well as connect mothers to resources they need to be happy, healthy, and confident.

“We are so proud of the work Huddle Up Moms has done over the past few years, despite the challenges of the pandemic, including hosting our annual Women’s Resource Summit, connecting at-risk mothers to blood pressure cuffs kits in our Moms Under Pressure program, and forming peer-led groups to help mothers feel less alone,” said Huddle Up Moms’ executive director, Jaclyn Nunziato. “Proceeds from Taco Fest will help us to continue to grow our programs and sustain the support that Roanoke mothers need.”

The director of community outreach for Huddle Up Moms, Kim Butterfield, joined WFXR News’ Amanda Kenney on “Good Day Virginia” to discuss the reason behind Taco Fest, as well as the expectations for the event.

In addition, the WFXR News team will be speaking with restaurants participating in Taco Fest — as well as getting a taste test — on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
