VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — The Town of Vinton says they are partnering with CodeRed to help provide emergency notification services to members of the community.

They say the new system, CodeRed will serve as a big factor in emergency planning and community outreach.

“CodeRED’s robust system will provide Vinton officials with a reliable, easy-to-use technology to
enhance our emergency preparedness plans,” said Mayor Bradley Grose.

According to a press release, the system will be used to notify the community of alerts including:

  • Traffic alerts (hazardous traffic, accidents, or road conditions)
  • Special events
  • Evacuation notices
  • Missing person alerts
  • Criminal activities
  • Shelter-in-place alerts
  • Boil water advisors
  • Natural disaster information

The Town of Vinton says the CodeRed alerts will go to registered residents, businesses, and people within the path of severe weather. These alerts will come as telephone calls, text messages, emails, and social media posts. They say notifications can also be received through the mobile app.

Registration for the CodeRed alert system is now open.
