UPDATE: Augusta County crash cleared on I-81

UPDATE 7:40 p.m.: The earlier crash on I-81 north in Augusta County that was also creating significant congestion in Rockbridge County has been cleared.

VDOT says traffic is now moving normally in this area.

UPDATE 6:25 p.m.: A crash on I-81 north in Augusta County continues to plague drivers traveling north from Rockbridge County.

The crash is located at mile marker 208.6 with backups reported approximately 8.5 miles, leading back well into Rockbridge County – even before Raphine.

VDOT says all lanes are now open; however, it is going to take some time for the traffic to thin out.

Significant delays can be expected if traveling in this area.

UPDATE 5:55 p.m.: Backups behind the crash in Augusta County are said to be approximately seven miles which leads the backups south into Rockbridge County, south of Raphine.

Drivers can expect significant delays if traveling in this area.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A multi-vehicle crash on a section of I-81 in Augusta County is creating backlogs so significant, that it is creating congestion as far south as Rockbridge County.

According to VDOT, the crash is located at mile marker 208.6, north of Raphine where the left shoulder and left lane are both closed due to the incident.

Backlogs are reported to be approximately 6.5 miles which leads back into northern Rockbridge County.

If you are traveling in this area, expect delays.
