UPDATE 8:43 a.m.: VDOT says all northbound lanes are back open at mile marker 140 on I-81 following a multi-vehicle crash in Roanoke County Tuesday morning, allowing traffic to return to its regular flow.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — For the second time in just a few hours, crews have shut down I-81 North in Roanoke County, this time because of a multi-vehicle crash.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash took place at mile marker 140 just before 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, shutting down all northbound lanes of I-81 in that area.

There is no word on how many vehicles were involved in this crash, or whether anyone was injured.

Motorists are asked to follow alternate routes in order to avoid delays, which have already reached two miles as of this writing, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says.

This multi-vehicle crash took place less than three miles away from a deadly hit-and-run that shut down I-81 North for several hours Tuesday morning.

This is a developing story.
