ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Summer is right around the corner, so for parents or children looking for an escape from the Roanoke Valley heat, why not set the stage for success with a theatre camp?
Summer camp is underway at Roanoke’s Mill Mountain Theatre for both children and adults.
“I’m excited for the whole summer,” said camper and intern James Moledor.
There are different themes that students can pick, from dance to technical to a magical experience.
“Next week, we’re starting our Harry Potter camp for kindergarten through fifth grade. So that’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Director of Education at the Mill Mountain Theatre, Victoria Buck.
For some, the theatre is more than a stage — it can be a classroom educating students about life.
“I think kids in theatre learn so much that they need to know for the real world, that they need to know for growing up,” Buck said.
“I’ve learned through theatre to be bold and make decisions. And if you make a mistake, you can just try it again and do it better next time,” said Moledor.
Educators say theatre can also help build communication and social skills, as well as boost confidence.
