ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a man seriously injured in northwest Roanoke.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, they were notified around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10 about a person with a gunshot wound in the 4100 block of Melrose Avenue NW.

Officers who responded to the scene found a vehicle in the roadway near the intersection of Comer Street and Melrose Avenue NW. Inside the vehicle, police say they discovered an unresponsive man.

The department says the man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be a serious gunshot wound.

Details of the shooting are limited and no one is currently in custody.
