Man injured in shooting at Roanoke County apartment complex

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police are investigating after a man was found shot at an apartment complex in Roanoke County late Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, the Roanoke County Police Department says officers responded to calls about a shooting at The Villages at Garst Creek, located in the 4300 block of Garst Mill Road.

When police arrived at the scene, they located a man on the ground outside of an apartment building with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers detained one person near the scene.

The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two individuals were said to have known to one another.

WFXR News was on scene for several hours. Witnesses told WFXR News the victim was shot in the head with an assault rifle. Roanoke County officials could not confirm the allegation.

Witnesses also said the shooter was accompanied by a woman.

Police say charges are pending in connection with this ongoing investigation.
