FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A man is facing a murder charge after authorities found a woman’s body inside a Franklin County home on Wednesday following a report of a shooting.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says a call came into the Emergency Communications Center about shots fired in the 6000 block of Bethlehem Road in Boones Mill on Wednesday, Dec. 22.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 70-year-old Mary Ann Cook, who died in her home from an apparent gunshot wound, according to officials.

Authorities say they identified 30-year-old Dominic Thomas Novia of Boones Mill as the suspect, saying he ran away from the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Emergency Communications Center received information about a man matching Novia’s description in the area of a nearby convenience store.

Authorities reportedly searched the area and found Novia near Whispering Creek Road. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Franklin County Jail.

Officials say Novia has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond.

The sheriff’s office tells WFXR News this was an isolated incident and does not pose any further threat to the community.
