ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police have taken a man into custody after a Wednesday night shooting left a woman seriously injured in northwest Roanoke.

The Roanoke Police Department says word came in at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11 about a person with a gunshot wound in the 1200 block of 13th Street NW.

When officers arrived in the area, they reportedly found a woman inside a residence with what appeared to be critical injuries.

That woman was brought Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, but there is no word on the state of her injuries at this time.

After clearing the residence where the shooting took place, police say they learned that the suspect might still be in the immediate area, so they set up a perimeter and began searching for the suspect.

Shortly afterward, authorities say they located a person matching the suspect’s description in the 1400 block of Grayson Avenue NW, identified the person as the suspect, and took the person into custody without incident.

According to the department, 28-year-old Percy Johnson of Roanoke, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding in connection with this shooting, which is still under an ongoing investigation.
