ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Green Memorial United Methodist Church held a memorial service to remember the lives of Roanoke’s homeless community who lost their lives during the past year.

With Tuesday being the official first day of winter, speakers acknowledged that it’s the longest night of the year which means cold weather can be expected in the weeks and months to come which adversely affects the homeless population.

Councilman Joe Cobb and Rabbi Kathy Cohen said that we must give meaning to the lives lost by working towards helping the homeless population in the new year.
