ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A school supply drive is happening between Roanoke County Public Schools, Roanoke City Public Schools, Salem City Public Schools and Craig County Schools which is going on through Virginia’s Tax-Free Weekend on Aug. 6-8.
Anyone can visit any Walmart store in the Roanoke Valley including Bonsack, Clearbrook, Salem and Valley View to donate school supplies for students who might not be able to afford the tools they need for a successful school year.
Supply boxes are being kept at registers and bins in each store.
Donations being asked for include:
- Glue sticks
- 3-ring binders
- Colored pencils
- Notebook paper (college and wide-ruled)
- Construction paper
- Printer paper
- Dry-erase markers
- …and more
Those who are interested can also donate monetarily. Any money that is collected at the event will be used to purchase school supplies.
“Each year, thousands of children across the Roanoke Valley begin school without the supplies they need to be successful. Walmart is teaming up with area school systems to work together to provide the tools our children need in school. Every single donation will help a student learn and achieve, especially this year when so many families are in need because of the pandemic.”Dr. Ken Nicely, Acting Roanke County Public Schools Superintendent
