ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — For the second time in less than four months, LeVar Burton has canceled a trip to the Star City for the Big Lick Comic Con.
Burton has been well known in the entertainment business. He has been the host and executive producer for “Reading Rainbow,” Lt. Cmdr. Georgi LaForge in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” television series and feature films, and Kunta Kinte in the mini-series “ROOTS.”
Burton has won several prestigious awards including three Primetime Emmy Awards; two nominations for the Spoke Word Grammy award, winning in 1999 for his narration of “The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr;” and 27 Daytime Emmy nominations and 21 wins.
Burton’s shooting schedule interfered with the February event and he had to cancel his appearance at the Berglund Center just days before the convention.
Then, in early March, Big Lick Entertainment spokesperson JD Sutphin reported that Burton would be one of many stars at Roanoke’s next Big Lick Comic Con on Aug. 6-7.
However, two months later, Big Lick Comic Con organizers announced that Burton will not appear at the August event due to his work schedule.
“Photo op refunds will be processed in the coming days through our ticketing partner,” Big Lick Comic Con wrote on Facebook on Tuesday, May 17. “We thank you so much for your incredible support – please stay tuned for some fantastic announcements as we make this our best celebration yet!”
Following the news about Burton, event organizers shared the names of two people who will be coming to the Star City for Big Lick Comic Con — Femi Taylor and Stephen Constantino, who played the dancer Oola and a Gamorrean Guard, respectively, in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.”
Tickets for the Big Lick Comic Con event are currently on sale online and at the Berglund Center box office. You will also be able to purchase photo ops as well.
