UPDATE, 4:16 p.m., ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Rockbridge Public Schools have released an update about the evacuation of Rockbridge High School.

At this time, law enforcement has completed a thorough search of the building and has given the all clear. According to the school district, the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office will have a larger presence than usual on Wednesday, Oct. 11 as students return to school.

The school district also says this was one of several recorded messages that were sent to schools in several other school districts across the state.

Items and personal belongings will not be available for pickup until students go to school on Wednesday. When students report to class, the school will have them gather any items left in 4th period during the evacuation. Once students have their items, they should go about their day as scheduled.

Rockbridge High School will debrief with local law enforcement over the next few days to review and assess the safety protocols and search for any areas in which it can improve.



UPDATE, 1:58 p.m. ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Rockbridge County Public Schools have released further information regarding the evacuation of Rockbridge High School.

According to the high school, a recorded message was sent to the RCHS main office stating that a bomb was in the school. The school district says this same recorded message was sent to other schools in several other school districts.

Virginia State Police and Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office will remain on scene and continue to search the school for any potential threats.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Rockbridge County Public Schools says students and staff of Rockbridge High School have been safely evacuated to the athletic stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

According to the school district, administrators are currently working with Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police. Local law enforcement says there is no active threat at this time and the situation is safely under control.

There is no current information on what caused the school to evacuate.

RCHS is releasing student drivers from the stadium to go home. Buses are on the way to the high school to begin taking students home and parents were asked to wait until 1 p.m. to start picking up their students.

The school district also said all after school activities at the high school have been cancelled.
