SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — Can you imagine getting to celebrate your 100th birthday? A Salem family wants you to join in the celebration this month by sending the birthday girl a card!
On July 25, Genevieve Witt turns 100 years old. She was born in Roanoke in 1921, married at age 15, gave birth to three daughters, and now she has great-great grandchildren!
She has picked up painting in her 80s and has won several awards. Witt also creates Faberge-style eggs, makes dolls, and writes poems.
To help Witt ring in a century of life, her family hopes to get 100 birthday cards sent to her in the mail!
“Most of mom’s peers have already passed on and we just thought it would be exciting to do something so that she can get something in the mail for a few days,” said Sylvia Baley. “At her age, the idea of computers is kind of passed her and just to get live mail, real snail mail, and open it up and we can sit with her and read the cards to her.”
Witt will get to celebrate her birthday with about five generations of her family on July 24.
If you want to help this special lady celebrate her 100th birthday, you can send a card to the following address:
