ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue and Emergency Department has reported an elderly woman is dead after a house fire in Lexington on Friday afternoon.

Fire officials tell WFXR News that around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 a neighbor called in a fire on the 100 block of Buena Vista Road. Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue and Emergency Department, Deputy Chief Moore say the following departments arrived at the scene to assist with the fire:

  • Kerrs Creek Fire
  • Lexington Fire Rescue
  • Buena Vista Fire
  • Buena Vista Rescue
  • Rockbridge County Fire Rescue
  • Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office
  • Virginis State Police

Details about the fire are limited at this time, however, a yet-to-be-identified woman and a family member lived in the home. Moore tells WFXR News the woman was home alone during the incident and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
