ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center’s most recent ‘Fashions for Evergreens‘ fundraiser was both online and in-person for 2021, raising more than $4,000 for the United Way of Roanoke Valley.
Donations amounted to $4,261.55 with online voting raising a record amount of $1,156.
In addition to an independent panel of judges, the 12 trees were on display for visitors to vote with their dollars for their favorite decorated tree in the People’s Choice Public Vote portion of the event.
While every tree entered in the contest received donations, the tree submitted by Woodmen Life won first place in the public voting.
The following received honorable mentions for their tree submissions: Greene United Memorial Methodist Church, Sweet Baby Blue Boutique, and Veteran’s Tree sponsored by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA)/Virginia Medical Center (VAMC)/Virginia Veterans Care Center (VVCC).
In addition to public voting, a panel of judges selects the Professional Vote winner every year. In 2021, six judges sat on the panel, arranged independently by the United Way of Roanoke Valley.
Woodmen Life was the all-around winner, taking first place in the public vote and professional vote. Vinton History Museum came in next, winning second place in the professional vote. The panel of judges awarded third place to Catawba Hospital.
Sweet Baby Blue Boutique and Carilion Clinic received professional honorable mentions.
“Our hopes are to continue to grow the event with more trees for 2022, especially after we weren’t able to have the event in 2020 due to the pandemic,” said Brian Wells, general manager for The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. “It was wonderful to have the community back sharing in the season, enjoying the beauty and originality of all of the displays and seeing the Hotel dressed up in her holiday best.”
Over the past decade, the Fashions for Evergreens event has raised more than $65,000 for the Roanoke Valley region.
