SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – On Oct. 1, LewisGale Regional Health System and Carilion Clinic are trading their stethoscopes and lab coats for cleats and gloves when they face off on the field for the annual ‘Homers for Hearts’ charity softball game.

Gates open at 1:00 pm for the 2:00 pm game start time at the Salem Memorial Ballpark. Physicians, nurses, and administrators will play for each hospital during the game. There will also be games, activities, giveaways, and raffles for all spectators. Full concessions will be available for purchase on site.

“It’s wonderful to see our local health systems come together in support of our mission to create a healthier community and longer, healthier lives for all,” said Elizabeth Vail, Senior Development Director at American Heart Association. ” Donations raised from the game will help the American Heart Association fund critical heart disease and stroke research and education that will save lives.”

Tickets are a $5 cash donation and can be purchased at the stadium on gameday. Tickets for children under 10 years old are free. All proceeds from the game between the two largest health care providers in the state will benefit the American Heart Association.
