ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Hikers who use Catawba Mountain Fire Road will need to find another route.

Crews will be clearing the road from Jan. 17 through Feb. 11. so improvements can be made to the road.

The road is a popular route for hikers accessing the Appalachian Trail.

During the closure, hikers are asked to use the Appalachian Trail to access McAfee Knob.

The road work is weather-dependent and is being performed during the winter season in an effort to minimize the disruption to those who use the road to hike.
