BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Heavy rainfall led to flooding in parts of Botetourt County late Wednesday, with water-covered roadways spotted near Buchanan.

Parts of Lithia Road along Looney Creek were flooded out. Several roadways in the area were closed due to flooding.

The bridge over Dry Run near U.S. Route 11 on 19th Street was also impacted by flooding.

Gavin Jernigan and his friend got stuck under the bridge in their truck and had to push themselves out.

“We hit the water and made it about three quarters of the way through,” Jernigan said. “Then the water kept flowing and the truck started to bog out about six inches over the water there.”

As they waited for a ride, they were warning folks to turn around.

Several businesses and homes along 19th Street saw flooding, as well.

In some places, homes and other buildings were in danger of being cut off and isolated from roads due to the water.

Around four inches of rain fell in the Buchanan area between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.
