UPDATE 11:59 a.m.: There was an unfounded bomb threat that prompted a large police presence at a Roanoke Kroger Thursday morning.

Officials tell WFXR News that the bomb threat was called in when someone found a water softener device out of place at the Kroger on Rutgers Street off of Hershberger Road and thought it might be some sort of explosive.

Police investigated the area, determined there was not a threat, and cleared the scene.



UPDATE 8:08 a.m.: WFXR News is still trying to find out what prompted a large number of Roanoke police officers and first responders to gather at the Kroger on Rutgers Street off Hershberger Road Thursday morning.

Our crew at the scene says the crime scene tape was recently removed from the area.

However, the reason behind the police presence is still unknown.
