UPDATE 12:38 p.m.: Crews have reopened a section of Colonial Avenue — from Winding Way to Robyn Road — to motorists in Roanoke following Monday morning’s gas leak.

However, city officials say flag crews will direct traffic through that part of Colonial Avenue, so drivers are asked to expect delays.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke city officials announced Monday morning the temporary closure of a section of Colonial Avenue due to a gas leak from an ongoing construction project.

According to the City of Roanoke, Colonial Avenue is closed from Winding Way to Robyn Road until further notice so workers can address the situation.

As of 10:46 a.m. on Monday, June 21, crews from Roanoke Fire-EMS are on scene and working with Roanoke Gas Company until conditions are safe, according to city officials.

The City of Roanoke will notify the public when the road is reopened.
