ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Ahead of Roanoke Valley Gives Day on March 10, one local non-profit organization is launching its effort to revitalize green spaces for Roanoke-area youth.
Project P.A.R.K. (Peaceful Areas of Recreation for Kids) is an initiative from Humble Hustle to empower Black youth with innovative and inclusive spaces inspiring hope and promoting giving back.
The first goal of Project P.A.R.K. is to repave and seal the aging basketball court at Villa Heights, off Melrose Avenue NW.
When the renovation is complete, it should provide a place for positive social interaction, improved mental and physical health, and a point of pride for local youth in northwest Roanoke.
Beyond repaving, plans are set to also add lighting and lay new paint striping for the court as well as benches and an update and upgrade to the playground. Ultimately adding improvements beyond the basketball court and playground to create an inclusive and safe atmosphere for visitors of all ages and interests.
In an effort to help raise money for Project P.A.R.K., Humble Hustle will be participating in Roanoke Valley Gives Day – but with a twist.
The organization is inviting community members to a socially-distanced Pledge Drive-Thru on Saturday, March 6 at Villa Heights at 2750 Hoover Street NW, between noon and 2 p.m.
Community members from all over Roanoke are invited to spend a few minutes driving by the park where they will receive information on the Project and, after making their pledge to donate, enjoy music, food and receive a take-home sticker or pin to showcase their support.
“We want people to see what they’re investing in. The basketball court at Villa Heights will be in full view from the driveway so donors can visualize the improvements they are pledging to help with, but you’re welcome to get out and check it out, too!”Xavier Tramaine, Humble Hustle Founder
Those attending the event on Saturday can donate any amount they wish.
