UPDATE: Franklin County traffic being detoured due to crash closing down Wirtz Road

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Franklin County motorists may run into delays Thursday morning due to a crash closing down Wirtz Road.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says all eastbound and westbound lanes are closed on Wirtz Road/Route 697 near Angle Plantation Road/Route 699.

According to VDOT, traffic is being detoured from Wirtz Road on to Kin Vale Road/Route 698 and back onto Wirtz Road.

There is no word on the current extent of the delays resulting from this crash.

Meanwhile, Appalachian Power is reporting a vehicle crash resulted in an outage impacting 303 customers in the Wirtz area as of 7:58 a.m. on Thursday, July 22. The company estimates power will be restored by 1:30 p.m.
