FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Franklin County firefighter/paramedic passed away on Wednesday after suffering what fire officials called a “major medical event” while on duty last month.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, Aug. 5, the Franklin County Department of Public Safety wrote:

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Firefighter/Paramedic Eric Newman passed away last evening. Paramedic Newman had been hospitalized after suffering a major medical event while on shift July 14th. Please keep the Newman and public safety family in your prayers.”
