UPDATE 1:33 p.m. 6/29/21: The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office shared the identity of the man who sustained life-threatening injuries from Monday morning’s shooting at the Cannaday’s Store in Boones Mill.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim in the shooting is 49-year-old Kelly Hall of Rocky Mount, who is still being treated at the hospital as of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29.
Emmitt Southern, 55, of Princeton, West Virginia, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting on Monday, June 28.
UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: Franklin County authorities arrested 55-year-old Emmitt Darrel Southern of Princeton, West Virginia after a traffic stop in Montgomery County.
Southern is facing charges of malicious wounding and he could face additional charges following Monday morning’s shooting at the Cannaday’s Store in Boones Mill.
UPDATE 12:15 p.m.: Franklin County authorities are currently searching for a West Virginia man wanted in connection with Monday morning’s shooting at a store in Boones Mill.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Monday, June 28 about a shooting at the Cannaday’s Store at 24800 Virgil H Goode Highway in Boones Mill.
Deputies — along with members of the Boones Mill Police Department, Virginia State Police, and Franklin County Public Safety — responded to the call.
Authorities say one male victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment following the shooting.
However, the suspect — identified as 55-year-old Emmitt Darrell Southern of Princeton, West Virginia — left the scene before law enforcement arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials believe Southern may be driving along Route 220 North or I-81 in an older model, dark blue blazer with West Virginia tag NBV-349.
The victim and Southern knew one another, so the sheriff’s office believes this was an isolated incident.
Law enforcement officers are actively searching for Southern, so if you see the man or the vehicle pictured below, you are asked to call 911 immediately.
BOONES MILL, Va. (WFXR) — Franklin County residents may notice a heavy law enforcement presence in Boones Mill Monday morning as authorities work the scene of an active incident at Cannaday’s Sav-A-Bit.
A representative for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office told WFXR News that this is believed to be an isolated incident that does not pose a threat to the general public.
Motorists are asked to expect congestion in this area.
