Former Chief of Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department passes away

GLASGOW, Va. (WFXR) — The Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department announced the passing of their former Chief Richard Spangler.

Spangler served with the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department for several years as a fireman before moving through the ranks to Chief of the Department. He was a life member.

The department says “he was a true leader and cared dearly about the community he served.”

Spangler was also a member of the Natural Bridge Volunteer Fire Department, where he previously held the rank of Assistant Chief.

There will be a memorial service for Spangler at the Glasgow Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m.
