ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Five northwest Roanoke residents are without a home following a fire at a multi-family home Sunday night.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, Roanoke Fire-EMS says crews were dispatched to the 1500 block of Orange Avenue NW for a fire.

According to the department, when units arrived at the scene, they found flames coming from a multi-family residential structure.

A person passing by the area reportedly noticed the flames and warned the occupants to escape.

First responders also rescued a number of pets from the home, fire officials say.

While there are no reports of injuries resulting from this fire, five residents from two different units will be displaced, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS. The American Red Cross has been called to assist.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time, the department says.
