ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — One person was transported to the hospital Thursday morning after ending up stuck in a 20-foot trench in southeast Roanoke.

According to Roanoke Fire-EMS, crews responded to the 2000 block of Jefferson Street SE shortly before 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26 for a trench rescue operation.

When units arrived at the scene, the department says they found a person in a 20-feet trench who was unable to get out on their own.

Personnel ended up placing a ladder in the trench so that individual could safely escape. The person was then brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for evaluation, fire officials say.
