UPDATE: Eight residents displaced after northeast Roanoke fire

UPDATE 8:55 p.m.: Roanoke Fire-EMS has extinguished Wednesday evening’s house fire in northeast Roanoke, but multiple families ended up displaced.

According to the department, units were dispatched at approximately 7:51 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14 to the 600 block of Strand Road NE for a fire.

Crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a residential structure when they arrived, but the fire was marked under control within 30 minutes.

While there are no reports of injuries, fire officials say three families — eight total residents — will be displaced and will be assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Fire crews in Roanoke are actively battling a house fire in the 600 block of Strand Road NE.

Authorities say the call came in at 7:51 p.m. When fire crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
