UPDATE: 4:20 p.m.: WFXR News has been provided with specific details about what surrounded the lockdown earlier Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Ferrum College.
Vice President for Instructional Advancement Wilson Paine tells WFXR News that reports of shots fired at Hillcrest Apartments, located near campus, came in at 1:30 p.m.
Campus security and local police responded to the scene and a campus alert was issued shortly thereafter noting the college’s lockdown.
No injuries have been reported in the incident.
The lockdown was lifted around 3:30 p.m.
Police are asking anyone who may have information surrounding this incident to call police.
The incident is still under investigation.
UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: Ferrum College has given the all-clear notice regarding an earlier lockdown.
The college is saying all normal activities can be resumed.
WFXR News is working to gather additional information about the incident that resulted in the lockdown.
UPDATE 2:22 p.m.: Ferrum College urges the campus community to continue sheltering in place as local authorities “are investigating shot fired” near the Hillcrest apartments.
The college says updates will be provided will via the RAVE alert system.

FERRUM, Va. (WFXR) — Ferrum College issued an alert on Facebook Wednesday afternoon telling the campus community to start lockdown procedures.
The warning was posted on social media just after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21.
