ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Elevation Roanoke kicked off its annual LOVE Week event by packing thousands of meals to feed people all over the world.

Pastor David Shearer with the Roanoke church says LOVE Week is all about service and helping the community.

“One of the things we really believe in is you do things well. We are not the expert in everything. Other organizations do their work really really well,” Shearer said. “What we want to do is we want to send volunteers, send resources, come alongside them and help them do what they already do to the best of their ability.”

On Saturday, July 23, Shearer and his volunteers packed almost 29,000 meals with Rise Against Hunger.

During LOVE Week 2022 — which runs from now through Saturday, July 30 — Elevation Roanoke says it will be participating in multiple community service events with various organizations.

The church is going to build a fence with Hope Tree Family Services for their equestrian program, set up classrooms at the academy, hold STEAM events at Kids Square, and serve meals at the Rescue Mission of Roanoke.
