Earth Week concludes with garden blessings in Roanoke

Roanoke Valley News

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — About a dozen people gathered on Sunday to bless the Carver Garden on Loudoun Avenue and soon-to-be orchard across from McCray’s on Ninth Street in Northwest Roanoke.

After the blessing, children who attended the ceremony were taught how they were replenishing the planet by making compost.

The Northwest Neighborhood Environmental Organization provides opportunities for children and adults to learn how to grow their own food.

The ceremony on Sunday, April 25 ended a week of five garden blessings spread throughout the community by RAISE (Roanoke Area Interfaith Stewards of the Environment).
