Drivers using I-81 south can expect delays starting next week for overnight paving operations in northern Botetourt County

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — Drivers who use I-81 South in the northern section of Botetourt County can expect delays starting next week as paving operations are scheduled to take place.

Starting Monday, May 10 through Thursday, May 13, alternating road closures will be in place along a stretch of I-81 South from mile marker 168.2 to mile marker 169.5 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night.

On Wednesday, May 12, exit 168 along I-81 South will be closed due to paving.

Alternating lane closures will remain in place the following week, during the same hours, between Sunday, May 16 and Monday, May 17.

Extended lane closures will then be in place the following two nights — Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19 — along that same stretch of roadway between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. the following morning.

Exit 168 will again be closed on the southbound side on Tuesday, May 18.

Drivers can expect delays in this area while work is being performed.
