UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: The disabled tractor-trailer has been cleared on I-81 north in Roanoke County.

Backups are quickly lessening across the area around mile marker 139 as all lanes have reopened.


UPDATE 6:00 p.m.: Significant backups continue to pile up on I-81 north behind a disabled tractor-trailer.

The incident is located at mile marker 139 in Roanoke County.

VDOT is saying that backups are approximately nine miles.

Drivers are urged to find another route or face significant impacts to travel times in this area.


UPDATE 5:30 p.m.: VDOT is reporting that backups continue to pile up behind a disabled tractor-trailer on I-81 north in Roanoke County.

VDOT says that backups are reported to be approximately six miles from the incident which is located at mile-marker 139.

Drivers should find another route or risk having their travel significantly delayed if driving through this area.


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Drivers along I-81 north in Roanoke County can expect significant delays caused by a disabled tractor-trailer.

According to VDOT, the incident is located at mile marker 139. The right lane and right shoulder are closed in this area due to the tractor-trailer.

Backups are reportedly listed at approximately four miles in this area.

Drivers should consider finding another route to avoid the increasing backlogs.
