UPDATE: Roanoke man faces several charges including assault, abduction in earlier incident police referred to as ‘critical’

UPDATE 12 p.m.: Roanoke Police confirm that all roads that were previously closed in southwest Roanoke have been reopened.

Police say Jared Ford, 29, of Roanoke was involved in a standoff in the area on Sunday. He has been taken into custody.

Ford is being charged with assault and battery and abduction.

A protective order was also served.

Police say this incident is still under investigation; however, they do say that there is no danger to the public.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke Police are asking residents to avoid a section of southwest Roanoke.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, a “critical incident” is occurring in the area of Kerns Avenue SW and Welton Avenue SW.

They are advising people who live on or near Main Street SW to stay in their homes until the situation can be resolved.
