UPDATE: Crews respond Roanoke Grocery Market for roof collapse in northwest Roanoke on Monday

UPDATE 4:02 p.m.: WFXR News is learning more about the roof collapse that happened late Monday morning in northwest Roanoke.

The Roanoke Grocery Market posted on its Instagram account saying that the heavy snow caused the roof of the building to cave in.

Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to the building in the 3800 block of Melrose Avenue NW at approximately 11:56 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3.

The store owners say that everyone made it out safely and no one was hurt. The store will be closed until the roof is fixed.


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — First responders were called out to a northwest Roanoke grocery store late Monday morning for a potential roof collapse amid the winter weather.

Roanoke Fire-EMS says crews were dispatched at approximately 11:56 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3 to the 3800 block of Melrose Avenue NW for a possible roof collapse in a commercial structure.

There are no reports of injuries at this time, but motorists are asked to use caution in the area.

As of 12:39 p.m., the department says units are still operating at the scene.
