BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — First responders were called out Friday morning for an industrial fire at a manufacturing facility in Botetourt County.

According to Deputy Chief Jeff Powell with the Botetourt County Department of Fire and EMS, a fire was reported at approximately 6:50 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 at Canatal Steel — which is located in the 400 block of Industrial Drive off of Lee Highway — in a part of the building machinery outside.

Powell says many of the units that responded to Canatal Steel were redirected from another commercial fire alarm in the area that was being resolved.

Fire officials tell WFXR News that a detached metal shaving collector caught on fire at Canatal Steel.

Troutville Volunteer Fire Chief Zach Beckner says crews used collapsing foam and water to suppress the fire, putting it out in about 30 minutes.

However, the fire is now under control and there are no reports of injuries at this time, according to Powell.

Meanwhile, units are reportedly staying at the scene to make sure the fire is completely extinguished and handle the overhaul.

This is a developing story.
