UPDATE: No injuries in NE Roanoke fire after fire ‘substantially grew in size’

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: A fire in northeast Roanoke is out after growing rapidly.

According to Roanoke Fire-EMS, the fire at the 500 block of Light Street NE grew rapidly after crews began battling the flames inside of the structure.

This forced firefighters to attack the flames from outside of the structure.

Within 20 minutes of arriving, crews were able to mark the fire as being under control.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — First responders are currently battling the blazes at the scene of a working residential fire in northeast Roanoke.

Roanoke Fire-EMS tweeted on Monday, March 1 that crews were dispatched to the 500 block of Light Street NE for a fire at 12:55 p.m.

When units arrived on scene, the department says they found heavy smoke coming from the roof line of a residential structure.

Personnel are currently working to extinguish the flames at the scene, fire officials say.
