Crash on I-81 south in Roanoke County cleared

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Congestion has eased in the area of an earlier crash on I-81 south in Roanoke County near the split with I-81. Traffic flow has returned to normal.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: An earlier crash on I-81 south in Roanoke County has been cleared.

However, congestion is continuing behind the scene of the earlier crash.

VDOT says backups are reported to be nearly four miles. VDOT traffic cameras are showing that traffic is flowing, but it is slow in the area of the I-81/I-581 split.

Minor delays can still be expected.

UPDATE 1:05 p.m.: A crash continues slowing traffic on I-81 south in Roanoke County.

VDOT says the crash is at mile marker 143 and is just south of the I-581 split.

Backups are reported to be around four miles.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A crash on I-81 south in Roanoke County is slowing afternoon traffic.

The crash is at mile marker 143, just past the split with I-581.

VDOT says the crash has closed the left shoulder and left lane.

Delays of two miles are being reported.

Drivers can expect delays if traveling in this area.
