UPDATE: Crash on I-81 South cleared after causing 5-mile backup in Roanoke County

UPDATE: 11:02 p.m.: According to VDOT, crews have cleared the scene of Thursday night’s crash in Roanoke County and traffic is no longer backed up on I-81 South.


UPDATE: 10:25 p.m.: VDOT says the traffic delay in Roanoke County has shrunk to one mile after a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 South at mile marker 146.


UPDATE: 10:10 p.m.: The traffic backup in Roanoke County is now estimated to be three miles long along I-81 South, with all travel lanes back open at mile marker 146.


ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Motorists in Roanoke County can expect several miles of delays Thursday night due to a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 South near the Hollins exit.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says all southbound lanes are closed at mile marker 146 on I-81.

According to VDOT, the traffic backup is estimated to be five miles along I-81 South.
