VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — The Vinton Police Department alerts drivers to be aware of the bike route for the 2023 Carilion Clinic IRONMAN 70.3 race that will be taking place on Sunday, June 4.

The road from the eastern town limits to the right westbound lane of East Washington Avenue will be closed, as bicyclists will use this route until they reach Bypass Road. Motorists will use the westbound and will have to turn left onto Bypass Road.
Bicyclists will then merge to the left southbound lane near Preston Avenue, while motorists turning onto East Washington Avenue from Mountain View Road will use the right southbound lane to exit Vinton.
From East Washington Avenue, the race will continue left on South Pollard Street and immediately right onto West Lee Avenue. Bicyclists will continue on and use the westbound lane of Walnut Avenue until they exit Vinton to Wise Avenue near the low-water bridge at Cargill.
Motorists attempting to get between Bonsack and points west of Vinton are advised to use I-581 and Route 460. A detour will also be in place for drivers needing to cross Washington Avenue to access Route 460. Drivers will be directed to use the Mountain View Raod entrance near Williams Byrd High School and travel down to Washington Avenue westbound.
